No water? What to expect during the unexpected.
Here for you
Unexpected water loss due to a mains outage, interruption or contamination can cause havoc with your business operations.
If the outage is for an extended period you could even face having to close your business.
The deregulation of the water market means your local water company has changed. Prior to April 2017, if you experienced unexpected water loss due to a mains outage, you may have received support or assistance from your water company to provide either tankered water, bowsers or bottled water.
In the new water market, your old water company (now wholesaler) may not provide such services and because of this you may be responsible for obtaining an alternative water source at your own expense. As your new water retailer, we can support you in this.
What is unexpected water loss?
Water loss is unpredictable and can happen at any time. You may experience a complete loss of flow or only receive a small trickle of water with low pressure. The reason for this is predominantly due to a burst on a nearby mains supply managed by the wholesaler.
What to do?
Step 1: Ensure the water loss is not isolated to your site; check your meter as you could have a leak on your supply pipes, which you are responsible for repairing.
Step 2: Contact your wholesaler; they'll be able to provide updates on how long it will take for the supply to be restored. Most wholesalers have updates about water losses on their websites and social media accounts.
Step 3: Assess your options
- How much water do you need? Take into account your business processes and domestic usage.
- Can bottled water keep you running? In some instances, a quick dash to your local supermarket will be your most cost-effective solution.
- Contact us. If water is essential and the outage is for an extended period, we can help your business source quality assured water customised to your quantity and access requirements. Call us on 0345 600 2 600 for assistance.
Best practice is to be prepared
Although emergency water can be provided at short notice, this is an expensive solution to a critical situation.
Delivery time for emergency water can take up to between one and four hours from point of order.
The uncertainty of repair time, lack of ready alternative supplies and impact on your business operations means the best way to tackle the unexpected is by being prepared!
The best ways to overcome the threat of mains outage is to have onsite water storage tanks and/or a continuity plan in place; both of which we can support you with.
Storage tanks
Water storage tanks enable you to temporarily operate business processes in the absence of mains supply. Storage tanks vary in size and this will determine the duration of water supply provision.
In conjunction with a continuity plan it will allow you to continue to operate whilst allowing time for the deployment and delivery of emergency water.
What is a continuity plan?
We offer a range of continuity and contingency plans that provide assurance and reassurance that your site is protected in the event of mains water outages.
A continuity plan is a custom package designed to provide you with piece of mind that should you ever experience a mains water outage you will receive the required volume of water within an assured response time, meaning you face minimal disruption.
Costs of both storage tanks and continuity plans are tailored to the quantity and rate of water needed.
